Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) are research centers established by funding through the National Center for Research Resources at NIH. The purpose of the centers is to strengthen biomedical research at universities and hospitals by expanding infrastructure and bringing together researchers from complementary disciplines to work together to develop personal research skills while adding to the knowledge of the field. Each Center is based on a theme or field of research. Here in Alaska our work is dedicated to the advancement of the health of Alaska’s indigenous peoples, while other COBREs focus on emerging infectious diseases, cardiovascular research, environmental health, neural mechanisms of adaptive behavior, and regenerative medicine to name just a few. From the COBRE homepage listed above you can learn more about this unique NIH program’s efforts to expand biomedical research across the country and visit the website of each Center.

In this section input comes from both professionals and parents who have gone through their own children’s drug use. Information here is available in print as well as audio clips.
